MIRABEL CENTRE

The Mirabel Centre is the first sexual assault referrel Centre in Nigeria and provides holistic, high quality medical and psycological services to survivors of sexual assault and rape. Any man, woman, or child that has either recently or in the past experienced rape or sexual assault, will benefit from the free and comprehensive medical, counseling and aftercare services. Services include medical examination, treatment, counselling, free pregnancy tests and other tests associated with rape, free medication, and more. Opened in 2013, the Mirabel Centre was founded by Mrs. Itoro Eze-Anaba after she wanted to do something to help fight against rape but help survivors. At the Mirabel Centre, confidentiality is of very high importance and everything they do is free of charge to anybody that needs testing or medication. All of the staff are specially trained professionals with skills to deal with rape and sexual assault, aswell as the doctors and nurses at the Centre undergoing an intensive two week training on forensic medical examination from a licensed forensic medical examiner from the St Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre, UK. 

STAND TO END RAPE

Stand to End Rape is a youth-led nonprofit organization advocating against sexual violence, providing prevention mechanisms and supporting survivors with psychosocial services. They dvocate for rape survivors who can’t speak about their ordeal due to stigmatization, by enlighten our community on the need to end rape and victim blaming. We use various platforms to educate people and also engage in interactive sessions via social media. We are working towards the day when rape is part of history, rather than a part of our everyday lives. Their mission is to end all forms of rape and to provide education and reverse thinking actions that contribute to rape, we shall provide healing and support for victims of rape. The vision of Stand to End Rape is To create a society where women, men and children are free from rape & sexual violence.They host a lot of events in the past, such as 2016 International AIDS Conference in Durban South Africa, Social Media Week Lagos 2017 and The Annual Women of Rubies Team Walk against Rape.

MEDIA CONCERN

Media Concern is a non-governmental organization based in Lagos, Nigeria founded in 2000 by Dr. Princess Olufemi-Kayode, and their main goal is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of women and children that report any sexual abuse or harrassment. Furthermore, they work with the criminal justice sector and investigate the perpetrators, seeking justice for those who’ve been wronged and additionally pushing for changes in policy to the government and stakeholders. Media Concern goes further to provide contraceptives and medical treatments in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies and the likelihood of STDs all at their Crisis Resource Center, allowing 24 hour access to this facility. Many more of their services include Sexual Violence Resource Center, capacity-building workshops and seminars, children’s sexual abuse projects, and a monthly forum that they had started in 2003, which they use to spread the word on sexual violence, share the stories of victims, and inform about child sexual abuse as well.
